Once When I Was Little

"Once when I was little" by James Morrison is so stuck in my head. Awesome lyrics.

The song totally captures the essence of growing up - transiting from an utopian world, built by ideals and dreams, to the real harsh world. Realising along the way that most times, you're not prepared for what's to come. Knowing that the only refuge you can take is in faith and hope, not distant lands.

In a nutshell, I've summarised the lyrics below. Click here for the full version.

--------

When I was young, I'd the one who would always jump in first, not thinking twice to look behind. Getting a good feeling, just from playing in the dirt. Building a rocket, flying to the moon. There's nothing I couldn't do.

I could dream more then, believed more then, that the world could only get better. I was free more then, could pretend more then that this life was full of good times.

There was a time when I trusted everyone. There was no place I'd not go. Used to feel so strong even when they told me I were wrong. That I can't live in a magic world cause it's time to grow up, be like the rest of them.

Those days flew by like a breeze just passing through.
