Camping!

Come Friday and hereby begins my camps!

4D3N Patrol Leader and Sixers Training Camp goes first on the list. Hey, I was a participant in the camp like some 7 years ago! I feel so old. And I've always wondered why they must put the sixers together with the scouts.

Ok jargon - pri sch kids cadet scouts hold ranks called sixers when they lead a patrol..sec sch kids scouts hold ranks called patrol leaders.

I remember my most horrible experiences camping with these pri sch kids. They would get up in the middle of the night to eat up the whole tin of biscuits, in fact, the only one the whole patrol had. Or they would always be hovering in the patrol kitchen area. Poof, by the second night all would be gone.

There was also once they actually used the MSG cubes, meant for dinner flavouring, to cook soup in the middle of the night. I remembered walking over and scolding them for not sleeping and then they offered me a whole mess tin of soup. I was rather pleasantly surprised by their kind gesture and before I could thank them, they just ran back into the tent. What happened next when I started slurping the "soup" you should know lah. "SO SALTY! KIDS!"

I have so many camping memories. I even have a scar on my right elbow as a "souvenir". That was from stitching a cut 6 years ago.

It feels different going back for the same camps each year. As I grow older, my viewpoints change, and so does my responsibilities. But I believe one thing remains the same - the good spirit of camping.
